Aveyard is Illinois' female Athlete of the Year -- June 22, 2000

Sophomore Jessica Aveyard, University of Illinois first-ever swimming All-American, was annnounced as the female receipient of the Dike Eddleman Athlete of the Year Award.

Aveyard, from Shamong, NJ, was one of Illinois' most versatile swimmers this past season. Aveyard became the first Fighting Illini swimmer to break the two minute mark in the 200 yard back, obliterating the previous team record by recording a time of 1:57.90.

Aveyard will be formally presented the Dike Eddleman Athlete of the Year Award at the Varsity "I" Banquet, which will take place September 15 in Champaign-Urbana.
