European Youth Olympic Festival Comes to Close in Belgrade

BELGRADE, Serbia, July 27. THE European Youth Olympic Festival came to an end with Great Britain and Italy topping each event contested.

Women's 800 freestyle 14&U
Great Britain's Jessica Thielmann nabbed a one-second victory over Hungary's Boglarka Kapas in the women's 800 free, 8:53.48 to 8:54.55, while Germany's Melanie Radicke placed third in 8:55.99.

Men's 400 IM 16&U
Great Britain scored its second straight conquest when Roberto Pavoni hit the wall in 4:28.19 for the win. Italy's Stefano Rossa (4:29.72) and Russia's Sergey Strelnikov (4:31.45) rounded out the top three in second and third, respectively.

Women's 200 butterfly 14&U
Great Britain remained on a tear, this time when Sophie Ward stopped the clock in 2:17.43 for her country's third win. Italy's Alessia Polieri placed second in 2:17.91, while Spain's Judith Ignacio finished third in 2:18.10.

Men's 100 backstroke 16&U
Italy broke the Great Britain streak when Marco Fanti Rovetta won the men's 100 back in 57.66. Poland's Radoslaw Kawecki wound up second in 58.39, while Hungary's Adam Sziagyi finished third in 58.60.

Women's 100 breaststroke 14&U
Italy had a run of its own going when Pamela Gabrieli clocked a 1:12.75 for the women's 100 breast victory. Great Britain's Sara Lougher finished second in 1:13.47, while Hungary's Cecilia Czifra took third in 1:14.21.

Results for the men's 200 freestyle 16&U were unavailable.
