Borja Iradier, Mireia Belmonte Garcia Set Spanish National Records at Spanish National Championships

BARCELONA, Spain, July 27. BORJA Iradier and Mireia Belmonte Garcia provided the Spanish National Championships another set of national records during the fourth night of long course meter swimming at the event held in Barcelona.

A day after setting the Spanish national record in the men's 50 breast, Iradier remained on fire with the 100 breast standard. He became the first Spaniard below 1:02 with a 1:01.62, knocking down his 1:02.07 set on July 15, 2006.

Mireia Belmonte Garcia followed that performance with a Spanish record in the women's 200 IM with a time of 2:15.60. That effort eclipsed the 2:15.90 set by Paula Carballido Romero on Aug. 6, 2003.

Several other meet records also fell throughout the night. Ana Gonzalez Pena nipped the previous standard of 1:11.38 set by Veronica Rodriguez Moreno in 2005 with a time of 1:11.37 to win the women's 100 breast, while Tatiana Rouba won the women's 50 free in a meet-record time of 25.70. That effort edged the 25.78 set by Ana Belen Palomo Jimenez in 2004.

Javier Noriega lowered his meet record in the men's 50 free with a time of 22.21 that chopped .25 seconds off his 22.46 set in 2005. Meanwhile, Erika Villaecija claimed the standard in the women's 400 free with a near-Spanish record time of 4:09.97. The time broke her meet-record time of 4:11.26 and almost went under her Spanish record of 4:09.93.

Relay meet records also fell as Jing Sun, Iris Nunez Alvarez, Angela San Juan Cisneros and Jesus Palacios Armas clocked a 4:16.57 in the women's 400 medley relay, while the team of Aschwin Wildeboer Faber, Sergio Garciz Ortiz, Olaf Wildeboer Faber and Eloi Saumell Montserrat notched a 3:44.10 in the men's 400 medley relay.

Other individual titles went to Brenton Cabello Forns in the men's 200 IM (2:04.28) and Marco Rivera Miranda in the men's 400 free (3:54.25).
