Swedish National Record Bookend Highlights Second Day of Swimming at Swedish National Championships

HALMSTAD, Sweden, July 26. A pair of Swedish national records provided the bookends to a solid day of long course meter swimming at the Swedish National Championships held in Halmstad, Sweden.

Gabrielle Fagundez broke the Swedish record in the women's 1500 freestyle to open the day's swimming when she clocked a 16:39.98. That performance put her well ahead of second-place finisher Eva Berglund's 17:05.33.

The men's 400 freestyle relay of Stefan Nystrand (48.70), Petter Stymne (49.77), Axel Pettersson (51.72) and Pontus Flodqvist (51.23) closed the meet with a national record swim of 3:21.42, which eclipsed the 3:22.93 set by Karlskrona 17 years ago on Nov. 25, 1990.

In between, plenty of other action took place at the Olympic qualifying event.

Christoffer Wikstrom pocketed the men's 200 free title in 1:50.12, while Lars Frolander snagged the men's 100 butterfly crown in 53.77.

Petra Granlund, the Swedish record holder in the event, easily won the women's 200 fly in 2:13.43, while Jolin Hoglund had to hold off Hanna Westrin, 2:29.14 to 2:29.84, to claim the women's 200 breast title.
