Third Night of Swimming Winds Down at Italian Championships

PESARO, Italy, July 26. THE third night of the five-day Italian Championships came to an end with national titles awarded across the spectrum at the long course meter competition.

Massimiliano Rosolino topped Emiliano Brembilla, 3:49.62 to 3:50.13, to win the men's 400 free crown, while Elena Gemo (29.69) and Mirco Di Tora (26.05) claimed the women's and men's 50 backstroke crowns.

In the women's 100 butterfly, Francesco Segat went under a minute with a time of 59.67, while Cristina Maccagnola (1:00.30) and Ambra Migliori (1:00.70) rounded out the rest of the top three.

Fabio Scozzoli surfaced from a tight pack of swimmers to win the men's 100 breaststroke in 1:02.55. Edoardo Giorgetti (1:02.57), Luca de Matteis (1:02.57) and Alessandro Terrin (1:02.59) each nearly tracked Scozzoli down for the title.

Federica Pellegrini, who clocked a 4:05.79 at Worlds in March, walked away with the women's 400 freestyle title with a 4:08.50 with Flavia Zoccari coming the closest with a second-place 4:13.25.

Meanwhile, Federico Bocchia grabbed the men's 50 free title in 22.67 over Alessandro Calvi's second-place 23.13.

The team of Romina Armellini, Noemi Direnzo, Ambra Migliori and Pellegrini won the women's 400 medley relay in 4:13.13, while the foursome of Damiano Lestingi, Giorgetti, Marco Belotti and Nicola Cassio claimed the men's relay in 3:43.79.
