Thomas Lurz, Nadine Pastor Claim 10K Open Water Titles at German Championships

GROSSKROTZENBURG, Germany, July 20. DEFENDING Swimming World Magazine Open Water Swimmer of the Year Thomas Lurz and Nadine Pastor claimed 10K titles at the German Open Water Championships during the first day of swimming in Grosskrotzenburg, Germany.

Lurz completed the course in 1:54:19.02, while Christian Hein, an Athens Olympian in the 400 free, placed second in 1:54:20.43. Toni Franz rounded out the top three in 1:54:21.99.

Meanwhile, Pastor crossed the line in the women's 10K first. But, times reported by the event look to be off as Pastor is reported to have finished in 1:01:11.59, while Britta Kamrau-Corestein reportedly placed second in 1:01:12.59. Stefanie Biller also reportedly grabbed third in 1:01:13.44.

Even considering different elements, these times are an hour faster than the 2:03:57.9 it took Russia's Larisa Ilchenko to win the 10K gold medal at the FINA World Championships held in Melbourne this March.

The men's times, however, are much more in line with the 1:55:32.52 it took Russian Vladimir Dyatchin to beat Lurz for gold at the same meet over the 10K distance.

In other action, Masters swimmers also took to the water for 2.5K swims. Feel free to check out the results link below for complete times of those swims.
