Dolan Wins 400m IM; Kowal Wins 100m Breast -- January 13, 1998

PERTH, AUSTRALIA - Americans Tom Dolan and Kristy Kowal celebrated at the World Championships, while Chinese swimmers were left in their wake during the continued drug-related controversy. Dolan defended his title in the men's 400m individual medley and Kowal was a surprise winner in the women's 100m breaststroke. Meanwhile, poor performances by Chinese swimmers fueled speculation that a seizure of illegal growth hormones by Australian Customs last week made for lackluster times.
