Michael Phelps, Kaitlin Sandeno, Peter Vanderkaay Double Up at Michigan Senior Challenge

ANN ARBOR, Michigan, July 13. A trio of Club Wolverine stalwarts accomplished doubles during the second day of long course meter competition at the Michigan Senior Challenge held in Ann Arbor, Mich.

Superstar Michael Phelps earned a pair of triumphs in typically off events as he dropped a 22.94 in the 50 free to beat teammate Robert Savulich's second-place 23.47. Phelps then dominated the 200 breast in 2:16.78. His closest competition in that event came from teammate Erik Vendt, who clocked a second-place 2:19.11.

Kaitlin Sandeno also put together an impressive double. She destroyed the field in the 200 IM in 2:13.76, which stands as the eighth-fastest time in the world this year. Sandeno also easily won the 400 free with a time of 4:13.70.

Peter Vanderkaay, another of the Club Wolverine triumvirate from the day's action, took home the 200 IM in 2:03.37. Once again, Vendt played second fiddle to a teammate with a second-place 2:04.32. Vanderkaay then returned at the end of the night with a 3:55.37 to touch out Nicholas Sprenger (3:55.47) in the 400 freestyle.

Two other individual titles went out, with one actually coming from a swimmer not under Bob Bowman's banner at Club Wolverine.

Margaret Kelly, who swims for CW, clocked a 26.17 in the women's 50 free to defeat teammate Hannah Smith's 26.84.

Giselle Kohoyda of the Midland Barracudas, however, broke up the Club Wolverine party with a time of 2:39.42 to win the 200 breaststroke.
