Three Meet Records Fall During Fort Lauderdale Sectional

FORT LAUDERDALE, Florida, July 13. DURING the first full day of long course meter competition at the weather-delayed Fort Lauderdale Sectional this weekend, three meet records fell by the wayside.

After watching Jayme Cramer of Southeastern Swimming take down the men's 200 freestyle standard in prelims with a time of 1:50.81, Ryan Lochte came over the top of Cramer in finals with another meet record of 1:48.74. Meanwhile, Cramer also lowered his prelim time with a readout of 1:50.10.

Lochte factored into another meet-record showdown, this time with Coral Springs' Vlad Polyakov in the 100 breast. This time, however, Lochte came up short as Polyakov touched in 1:02.35 to drop his meet record previously set at 1:02.77. Lochte settled for second in 1:02.59, with Mike Alexandrov of Wildcat Aquatics pushing the pace with a third-place 1:02.91.

Kyle Young of Tallahassee picked up the 800 freestyle win by 10 seconds over second-place finisher CJ Nuess of Pine Crest with a meet-standard time of 8:12.85. Nuess, meanwhile, clocked in at 8:22.47.

In other men's action, David Russell of Bluefish held off teammate Pat Reams, 55.25 to 55.86, to win the 100 fly, while Tommy Wyher earned a close third in 55.87. Meanwhile, Nuess easily grabbed the 400 IM title in 4:22.17. Pat Mellors came in second in 4:24.04.

On the women's side, Ashley Largo of Sarasota YMCA started the day with a dominant win in the 1500 free when she stopped the clock in 16:51.63.

Megan Romano, 16, of Saint Petersburg then clipped the field in the 200 free in 2:02.03, while another 16-year-old, Laura Soger of Bluefish (1:11.24), touched out Elle Weberg of Florida Atlantic (1:11.26) and Lauren Brick of Area Tallahassee (1:11.61) for the 100 breast crown.

Sarah Bateman, 17, of Patriot Aquatics won the 100 fly in 1:01.93, while Julie Stupp of Coral Springs concluded individual title-winners with a 4:48.94 in the 400 IM.
