Annika Lurz, Helge Meeuw Post Best Efforts at Darmstadt International Invitational

DARMSTADT, Germany, July 9. OVER the weekend, Annika Lurz and Helge Meeuw earned the top individual performance trophies at the Darmstadt International Invitational held from July 6-8.

Lurz, who earned silver in the event at the World Championships held in Melbourne, Australia this year, clocked a 1:59.26 to win the 200 freestyle. Lurz also claimed the 200 IM title in 2:18.15.

Meanwhile, Meeuw won the 100 back in 56.18 for the best men's performance as part of a backstroke double. Meeuw also touched first in the 50 back in 26.32.

In other action, Keri Shaw and Jens Thiele each tripled during the meet. Shaw swept the butterfly events with wins in the 50 fly (27.78), 100 fly (1:01.19) and 200 fly (2:14.31). Thiele, on the other hand, showed some versatility with wins in the 100 free (51.36), 200 back (2:05.01) and 50 fly (24.90).

Five other swimmers earned multiple titles at the meet. On the women's side, Karen Lee took home the 100 (1:04.55) and 200 (2:15.23) backstroke titles, while Janne Schafer garnered the 50 (31.65) and 100 (1:08.93) breaststroke crowns. Rhi Jeffery, still on a mission to earn her second Olympic berth in a row, won the 50 (25.98) and 100 (56.66) freestyle races.

Darren Mew and Romans Miloslavskis each pocketed a pair of triumphs on the men's side of the meet. Mew touched first in the 50 (28.69) and 100 (1:02.41) breaststrokes, while Miloslavskis won the 400 free (4:00.26) and 100 fly (55.73).

Charlotte Barnes (200 breast – 2:35.34), Antje Buschsculte (50 back – 29.34) and Sarah Paton (400 free – 4:15.52) each snagged a single title for the women, while Cameron Gibson (50 free – 23.63), Kamil Kasprowicz (200 IM – 2:01.88), Lewis Smith (200 fly – 2:03.08), Rich Webb (200 breast – 2:22.46) and Lukasz Wojt (200 free – 1:51.87) each nabbed victories of their own in the men's meet.
