Kathryn Sweeney Named Assistant Swimming and Diving Coach at Colgate

HAMILTON, New York, June 20. COLGATE University head swimming and diving coach Stephen Jungbluth has announced the hiring of Kathryn Sweeney as an assistant coach. Sweeney will assist Jungbluth in all aspects of the swimming and diving program.

Sweeney comes to Colgate from New York University where she served as an assistant coach from 2005 to 2007. During her time at NYU, Sweeney helped the team to a 17-1 meet record and two ECAC championships. She also helped coach two swimmers to NCAA Division III All-American status. Sweeney was a recipient of the UAA Conference Women's Coaching Staff of the Year award in 2006 and the ECAC Women's Coaching Staff of the Year award in 2006 and 2007.

Sweeney has also worked as a swim coach and camp counselor at Harvard University and is a personal swimming instructor.

"Kate hit a home run on the interview with the coaching staff, the administration, and especially the swimmers that she met," Jungbluth said. "She will do a great job working with the student-athletes. As a former student-athlete at Tufts University, she understands the balance that must be maintained to achieve excellence in the classroom and in the athletic arena. I am very excited to have her on board with our program at Colgate."

A native of Duxbury, Mass., Sweeney graduated cum laude with a bachelor's degree in biology from Tufts University. She was a four year letterwinner on the Jumbo swim team and served as a captain in the 2004-05 season. She is a recipient of the team's Ceci Grimm Award for dedication, dignity, selflessness, and warmth. Sweeney currently ranks fourth on the team's all-time 1,000 meter freestyle list.
