Swedish Grand Prix Completes First Day of Swimming

SIMRISHAMN, Sweden, June 16. THE first day of long course meter competition came to a close at the Swedish Grand Prix held in Simrishamn, Sweden from June 16-17.

Men's 100 freestyle
Pontus Flodqvist touched first in 52.39, while Henrik Sjoholm placed second in 53.14. David Larsson finished third in 53.60.

Women's 200 freestyle
Magdalena Kuras eased into victory with a time of 2:06.20, while Stina Gardell wound up second in 2:07.22. Lina Edlund rounded out the top three in 2:08.43.

Men's 50 breaststroke
Joakim Nielsen clocked a 30.07 to win the one-lap 50 breast for the men. Niklas Tour grabbed second in 30.41, while Nils Schonberg took third in 30.95.

Women's 100 breaststroke
Rebecca Ejdervik dominated the field in the women's 100 breast with a time of 1:11.24. Sandra Olofsson (1:14.69) and Ida Nilsson (1:14.79) provided the excitement in the race as Olofsson touched out Nilsson for second place.

Men's 400 IM
Christoffer Wallin won the short-staffed 400 IM heat, in which only five swimmers competed, with a time of 4:38.03. Martin Persson took second in 4:42.49, while Linus Junefelt garnered third in 4:45.84.

Women's 100 butterfly
Cecila Rasmuson hit the wall in 1:01.99 to win the women's 100 fly. Sandra Nilsson placed second in 1:03.33, while Sofie Gardell finished third in 1:04.28.

Men's 100 backstroke
Konstantin Sundin provided the only sub-1:00 swim of the day with a time of 59.27 to win the crown. Sten-Olof Gustafsson took second in 1:00.31, while Jens Petersson placed third in 1:00.39.

Women's 50 backstroke
Susannah Moonan stopped the clock in 30.84 to win the women's sprint back event. Eljena Knutsson and Erika Hegestig dead-heated for second place in 30.96.

Men's 200 butterfly
Christian Konrad won the men's 200 fly in 2:09.66, while Jonas Grundstrom (2:10.55) and Martin Birgersson (2:11.05) placed second and third, respectively.

Women's 200 IM
Sara Thyden touched in 2:21.69 to win the women's shorter medley event, while Stina Gardell took second in 2:22.61. Emilie Roslund wound up third in 2:26.22.

Men's 400 freestyle
Linus Junefelt touched out Johan Claar in an exciting finish by the slimmest of margins in the men's 400 free. Junefelt clocked in at 4:07.67, while Claar touched in 4:07.68 for second. Christoffer Wallin rounded out the podium in 4:18.10.

Women's 50 freestyle
Magdalena Kuras claimed the women's splash-and-dash title in 26.45, while Cecilia Rasmuson placed second in 26.79. Maja Kruse finished third in 27.12.

Men's 200 breaststroke
Martin Persson won the long-distance men's breaststroke event with a time of 2:25.41. Lukas Gamerov (2:26.44) and Erik Trybom (2:30.13) wound up in second and third place, respectively.

Women's 800 freestyle
Linda Jonsson crushed her competition in the women's 800 free when she hit the wall in 9:16.79. Anna Ahlin (9:40.19) and Charlotte Nilsson (9:41.06) provided her closest opponents with second and third-place efforts, respectively.

Men's 50 butterfly
Lars Frolander, the Swedish record holder in the event, won in 24.36. Meanwhile, Pontus Flodqvist took second in 25.13, while Daniel Hult placed third in 25.77.

Women's 200 backstroke
Carin Moller won the women's 200 back in 2:17.75, while Erika Hegestig placed a distant second in 2:23.24. Sandra Nilsson placed third in 2:24.21.
