Kate Ziegler, Tom Koucheravy Open TYR Swim Meet of Champions With 800 Free Wins -- June 15, 2007

MISSION VIEJO, California, June 15. KATE Ziegler and Tom Koucheravy each picked up 800 freestyle titles during the first day of long course meter competition at the TYR Swim Meet of Champions held in Mission Viejo, Calif.

Ziegler, who swims for The Fish, completely dominated the women's field with a meet and pool record time of 8:24.40. Sachiko Yamada, swimming in her home pool, provided the closest competition with a second-place time of 8:45.54. Meanwhile, Minnesota's Yuen Kobayashi took home third in 8:46.65.

Koucheravy triumphed in a duel with St. Petersburg's Robert Margalis. Koucheravy touched in 8:01.62 to win the title, while Margalis wound up second in 8:01.91. Mission Viejo's Chad La Tourette placed third in 8:07.43, while Indiana University's J.K. Koehler knocked 14 seconds off his seed time with a fourth-place 8:10.65.

Notably, Larsen Jensen, swimming under the Trojan Swim Club banner, took fifth in 8:12.52. Also swimming for Trojan, Klete Keller finished 13th in 8:30.34.
