Brendan Hansen Leading Fundraising Effort -- June 12, 2007

CHICAGO, Illinois, June 12. BRENDAN Hansen, the world-record holder in the 100 and 200 breaststroke events and a three-time Olympic medalist, will take part in a fundraising campaign on Thursday, June 21. Hansen will take part in the 3K Walk and Survivors Strut portion of the 13th Annual ABC7 Jim Gibbons Run/Walk.

The event is a major fundraiser for the Leukemia Research Foundation, for which Hansen has been a national spokesman for the past three years. The event is part of Toyota's "Engines of Change" campaign, designed to help individuals make positive contributions to their communities. During the day, Hansen will host a meet and greet with the Wolfpack Aquatics Club, visit the proposed aquatics venue for the 2016 Olympics, for which Chicago is the American bid city, and will visit pediatric leukemia and lymphoma patients at the UIC Medical Center. He'll then take part in the 3K walk.

"World class athletes like Brendan Hansen inspire us with not only their physical achievements – but with their connection with the world," said Megan Gillam, Engagement Marketing, Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A., Inc. "Inspiring people to take that extra step, get involved and make a difference is the focus of Toyota's Engines of Change program."

Hansen has his own Leukemia Research Foundation Foundation pledge page at www.leukemia-research.org/brendanhansen where fans can register to walk with him. Toyota, a proud sponsor of USA Swimming and strong supporter of Brendan's work with LRF, will donate up to $10,000 to cover the cost of entry for fans wishing to join him during the walk, and is encouraging participants to make additional donations, if possible. More information about the event is available at www.leukemia-research.org/gibbons.
