Coronado, Reno Come Up Big at the Nevada State Swimming and Diving Championships

RENO, Nevada, June 10. CORONADO and Reno both won two relays and rose above the competition to capture the women's and men's respective titles at the 2007 Nevada Swimming and Diving Championships.

Team Scores

Coronado, led by Alabama-bound senior Katie Black, bested the women's field with a total of 97 points. Reno placed second with 79 points while McQueen garnered the third-place honors with 55 points.

Reno's men's team easily outswam the competition, accumulating 110 points throughout the meet. Palo Verde compiled 66 points and placed second while Centennial ranked third with 49 points.

Women's Results

Coronado recorded two golds in the 200 medley and the 400 freestyle relays. The contingent of Rachell McClain, Tatum Gormley, Black and Kendal Nisson touched first in the 200 medley relay with a 1:51.81 time. Mikaela Jordan, Nisson, McClain and Black combined sprint freestyle talents at the end of the meet, edging out Reno for first place in the 400 freestyle relay with a time of 3:42.27.

Reno's Jordyn Green coasted to individual wins in both the 200 IM and the 100 breaststroke. Green clocked a 2:07.86 in the 200 IM and an All-American automatic time of 1:04.28 in the 100 breaststroke.

Men's Results

Reno crushed the field in both the 200 medley relay and the 400 freestyle relay. In the 200 medley relay, the team of Michael Weiss, Kyle Norton, Boomer Roepke and Fritz Roepke narrowly missed the state record with a 1:36.94. Fritz Roepke, Boomer Roepke, Samuel Schouweiler and Weiss touched the wall in 3:16.77, corralling a first-place finish in the 400 freestyle relay.

Boomer Roepke outperformed his competition in both the 200 IM and 100 butterfly. He captured the 200 IM with a 1:54.71 time and the 100 butterfly with a 51.12.

Coronado's Martin Vanis racked up two individual wins as well. Vanis edged out competitors in both the 200 freestyle (1:44.68) and the 100 freestyle (48.40).

Diving Results

Ciera Courtny from Bishop Gorman led the way in the women's diving competition, compiling a final score of 417.45. Jordyn Lauten of Coronado recorded a second-place finish (398.60) while Foothill's Edith Feld came in third (386.60).

Austin Iveson from Reno snatched up the gold in the men's diving competition with a 419.35 score. Green Valley teammates Blake Bitton and Ryan Chatwin came in second and third, respectively, with scores of 408.55 and 407.85.
