Promising Seniors-To-Be 2007: Jimmy Feigen

PHOENIX, Arizona, May 22. THE next swimmer in SwimmingWorldMagazine.com's spotlight series on Promising Seniors-To-Be is Jimmy Feigen. Feigen, located in San Antonio, Texas, swims for Al Marks at Winston Churchill High and Matt Bos at the San Antonio Wave.

As of the May 14 National Interscholastic Swimming Coaches Association (NISCA) release of All-American candidates, Feigen stands third in both the 50 free (20.29) and 100 free (44.83) events. He is also the top ranked junior in the 100 free on the list. Meanwhile, he clocked a 50.21 in the 100 fly to make the All-American applicant list in that event.

Feigen replied to an interview request from SwimmingWorldMagazine.com with the following responses:

Was there a watershed mark in your career that made it clear you had a gift for the sport and could achieve big things?
I wanted to pursue swimming as a competitive sport when I was 10 years old. At that time, I was also playing soccer and paintball. At age 10, I won high point at the Texas Age Group Championships in both long and short course seasons. Since that time, I have wanted to pursue bigger and better accomplishments in swimming.

What type of interaction do you have with your coach when it comes to training? What kind of input do you have?
My coach and I share an open and diverse practice schedule designed to benefit me and my needs. We have a great connection and enjoy each other's opinions and input.

What are your goals for your senior season?
My primary goal is to break the state and national records for 50 and 100 free and help lead the team to a state title for my high school coach's, Al Marks, last year at Churchill High School.

Who has made the biggest impact on your swimming career to this point?
My mom helped me make it through the rough patches. She made me feel in control and optimistic about swimming. This helped me stay focused about my goals, and I was able to maintain and remain positive over the years.

Have you verbally committed to any University? If so, which one and why? If not, who is in your top five and why?
I have had a lot of e-mail and mail from a variety of colleges. It has been exciting to hear from all of them, especially to receive hand-written notes from several of the coaches. I am interested in several, including California, Texas, Stanford, Arizona and Auburn.

What has the recruiting process been like for you?
I am anxiously awaiting July l, when the recruiting process begins in earnest. Until now, it has been great hearing from many programs across the nation.
