Zhang Lin Claims 400 Free Title at Chinese Nationals

SHUNDE, China, May 19. THE winner of the 200 freestyle earlier in the meet, Zhang Lin took top honors in the 400 freestyle Saturday, while racing at the Chinese National Championships. The competition is one of a handful this weekend that has adopted a morning-finals format to simulate what the athletes will experience at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing.

Zhang covered the 400 free in 3:48.84 to distance himself from Sun Yang (3:50.16) and Zhang Enjian (3:50.24). Meanwhile, Xu Yanwei prevailed in the women's 50 free with a clocking of 25.28, quicker than the 25.60 of Zhu Yingwen. The 200 breaststroke crown went to Sun Ye in 2:27.83 and Ouyang Kunpeng added the 100 back title to the 200 championship he won days ago. Ouyang was timed in 55.36.
