Lori Munz Cleared to Swim at Aussie Trials

SYDNEY, May 4 (Reuters) – A top Australian swimmer who smashed her kneecaps in a car crash just two months ago has been cleared to compete in next week's Olympic trials after completing a remarkable recovery.

Lori Munz seemed certain to miss the Australian national championships at the Sydney International Aquatic Centre after she was cut from the wreckage of her car, lucky to be alive.

But the 21-year-old was told by doctors on Thursday that she would be able to contest the championships from May 13-20 in a last-ditch effort to make the Australian Olympic team.

Her manager, Liz Wilson, said Munz was likely to compete in the 100 and 200 metres freestyle events where she needs to finish in the top six to win a place in the relays.
