Distance Freestyle Prelims Open 2007 USA Swimming Spring Championships

EAST MEADOW, New York, March 27. WHILE most of the world has their eyes and ears tuned into Melbourne, Australia for the FINA World Championships, the U.S. is making waves in East Meadow, N.Y., with its 2007 Spring Championships. The meet opened with distance freestyle preliminary action.

Women's 800 freestyle
Alyssa Anderson clocked the quickest time in prelims with an 8:42.30 to earn the top spot in finals. Teresa Crippen placed second in 8:46.00, while Erin McCleave finished third in 8:46.25.

Corinne Showalter (8:47.97), Ashley Largo (8:48.38), Katie Gardocki (8:49.64), Ashley Evans (8:51.49) and Emily Bibb (8:52.19) also earned final spots.

Men's 1500 freestyle
Chad La Tourette hit the wall in 15:14.50 for the best time in the distance free preliminary round. Ian Rowe took second in 15:28.25, while Troyden Prinsloo placed third in 15:32.04.

Other finalists include Logan Storie (15:34.75), Fran Crippen (15:35.24), Dan DeMarco (15:37.60), Tom Koucheravy (15:39.69) and Joey Pedraza (15:44.31).
