A Day in the Life: Sarah Groff-Palermo, Day 3

Today was short on swimming and long on airplane delays.

I slept in, which seems to have helped my cold a lot, then packed everything up and headed for the airport. With two subway rides and heavy baggage, it was excellent dryland work to keep me loose. I met my teammate and perpetual roomie, "Thor," at the gate. After a two-hour delay in which the plane had to be rebooted, we finally took off for Boston. Once here, we checked in, ate some food, and tried not to talk about being nervous. After some stretching on the orders of the head coach, it'll be time for my favorite thing, sleep!

Since, there isn't much about swimming today, I'll tell you about Thor. She picked up that name on Training Trip NYC, during which a few of us stayed in freezing New York and swam doubles while another part of the team was being whipped into shape under the warm Mexican sun. They dodged sunburns while we dodged slush, but all of us put in the hard time to make tomorrow a success. Anyway, she is Thor because she may be one of the toughest swimmers on our team: loads of tough events and she never complains!

Besides, she knows how to drop the hammer on our competition. When I make fun of her, I say I want to grow up to swim like her, and it is only half a joke. She practices hard, too, always looking to challenge herself, and that is totally inspiring. She is trying to read over my shoulder now, so I better sign off.

Go Red Tide!
