Pipes-Neilsen Goes on Record Tear -- March 22, 2007

ANGERS, France, March 22. THE queen of female Masters Swimming had a huge effort within the last week at the French Masters Nationals. American Karlyn Pipes-Neilsen, new to the 45-49 age group, set seven individual world records and was part of a relay team that blasted a global standard. She'll soon race in a long-course competition in England.

Pipes-Neilsen established her records in the 100 butterfly (1:06.42), 200 backstroke (2:24.01), 200 individual medley (2:27.57), 200 freestyle (2:08.81) and 400 individual medley (5:14.73). She also set records in the 50 backstroke on two occasions, going 31.53 before following with a 31.24 showing. Her 200 back record was a new mark by seven-plus seconds and the 200 I.M. time lowered the former record by five-plus seconds. The final record arrived in the 160+ medley relay, as her team was timed in 1:56.35.
