Canada’s Alexandre Despatie Leads Men’s Three-Meter Prelims at Worlds

MELBOURNE, Australia, March 21. ALTHOUGH it occurred only during preliminary action, Canada's Alexandre Despatie scored an upset by leading after the three-meter prelim round at the FINA World Championships in Melbourne, Australia.

After witnessing the Chinese romp through the first three days of diving, Despatie remained consistent throughout his set of dives to tally 486.85 points at the end of the round. His top dive came in the fourth round with a reverse 2.5 somersault with 1.5 twists from the pike position for 89.25 points.

China picked up second and third as Qin Kai (474.50) and He Chong (470.75) posted solid totals.

Troy Dumais supplied the top American finish with a fifth-place 456.00.
