Holland Men Edge Field, Win Two Relays in Michigan Division 2 Championship

ROCHESTER, Michigan, March 21. ALMA'S John Frutiger accomplished the impossible: He found a way to defeat Birmingham Seaholm's Morgan Priestley. Frutiger touched out Priestley in the 500 freestyle with a 4:32.12 time, which erased Priestley's 2006 mark of 4:32.25. Priestly settled for second in 4:32.17.

Priestley, a sophomore who also swims for Birmingham YMCA, won the 200 and the 500 freestyle events at last year's championship meet and reclaimed his 200 freestyle title in 1:38.10.

Brad Craig from Midland Dow set a record in the 200 I.M. with a 1:51.02 swim. Dan Priestley of Birmingham Seaholm held the former standard of 1:51.68, which he set in 2005. Craig also reset his own record in the 100 breaststroke en route to first-place time of 56.24. Craig set his former time in 2006 with a 56.47.

Brian Kerr of East Grand Rapids edged out Ryan Bordine of Milan in the 50 freestyle (21.02) en route to victory. Kerr also snagged a title in the 100 butterfly with a 51.03. Johnny Sanchez of Holland placed first in the diving competition with a 386.80 score. Collin O'Brien of East Grand Rapids came in second with 381.80 points while Josh Miles of Northview placed third with 362.90 points.

Holland came out on top in the end, scoring 244 points. East Grand Rapids claimed the second-place spot with 231 points while Birmingham Groves took third with 210 points.
