Florida’s Spofforth Claims 200 Back Title

By Jason Marsteller

MINNEAPOLIS, Minnesota, March 10. FLORIDA's Gemma Spofforth went out fast and held off all challengers with a 1:52.96 in the 200 back. Incredibly, Spofforth, when Florida signed her, she had sat out a year due to illness. Nice freshman year, to end with an NCAA title, don't you think?

Stanford's Julia Smit placed second in 1:53.39, while Georgia's Aleksandra Putra took third in 1:53.71.

In the team fight, Auburn stretched its lead to 421-390 over Arizona. California remained in third with 267.5 points, while Stanford closed with a fourth-place tally of 267. Georgia stood in fifth with 222 points.
