INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana, February 24. SENIOR Tyler Lemert of Fort Wayne Concordia Lutheran smashed a 15-year-old state high school breaststroke record Friday night with a prelim swim of 54.82. The old record was 55.33, set by Jeff Daniel of Chesterton in 1992. He finished more than two seconds faster than the next qualifier, Derek Paul of Hamilton Southeastern. Patrick Fowler of Seattle Prep set the national record of 53.66 in 1998. Lemert also posted the second fastest swim in the 50 free.

Paul's team advanced 10 individual swimmers and all three relay teams to championship heats in Saturday's finals to put themselves in the favorites' role. Indianapolis North Central also sent through three relay teams to go with six individual swims in the finals.

Three other teams – Chesterton, Munster and Northridge – also advanced all their relay teams to finals.

HSE posted the fastest times in the medley relay and the 400-free relay, while North Central was .08 faster than the Royals in the 200-free relay.
