Clement, Bogarin Open South American Junior Championships With 5K Wins

ISLAS MARGARITA, Venezuela, February 23. DURING the opening day of competition at the South American Junior Championships held in Venezuela this weekend, 17-year-old Martin Clement and 16-year-old Antonella Bogarin of Argentina picked up victories in 5K open water racing.

Clement posted a time of 58:41 to lead the men, with Brazil's Victor Pires Simoes taking second in 58:42 and compatriot 17-year-old Mario Conceicao Pereira placing third in 58:43.

In the women's meet, Bogarin clocked a 1:04:08 for the title, while Ecuador's Nataly Caldas Calle finished second in 1:05:09 and 17-year-old Maria Perez of Venezuela placed third in 1:05:10.
