A Day in the Life: Matt Lenton, Day 7

COLUMBUS, Ohio, February 14. IN the next-to-last entry in his "A Day in the Life" series on SwimmingWorldMagazine.com, Indiana University sophomore Matt Lenton writes a bit about the long journey through an incredible amount of snow and ice as the Hoosiers made their way to Columbus, Ohio for the Big Ten Championships this weekend.

Tuesday, February 13, 2007, Day 7
Hi Everyone,

Today was travel day for the team. I woke this morning to more snow and realized that it would dramatically slow down our travel time today. After finishing off packing, I loaded the car and headed into the pool for a wake-up swim before we left.

This morning's swim was a relatively easy 1400 with some small sprint in between. After seeing our fantastic head athletic trainer Missy 'Sweetheart' Epstein for some stretching and advice, it was soon time to board the bus. Before leaving, our weight coach Mike Basgier had a few inspirational words before we left.

The only way to describe the roads and traffic was atrocious. There was snow and ice everywhere with our bus stopping every 45 minutes to wipe the window so our driver could see. Finally after arriving six hours later, we were lucky enough to find a local pool (thanks to teammate Justin Peterfish's parents) for us to have a warm up in.

After our swim, we checked into our hotel and roommate Nick 'Man of Steel' Walkotten and I unpacked and headed on down to dinner. We had a quick team meeting as we learned that the meet is to be pushed back a day so the other teams who weren't so lucky to avoid the bad weather have a chance to get into town.

After dinner, I spent some time with Todd Patrick and Pat Penoyar just relaxing watching some TV before bed.

Speak to you all tomorrow.

Matt
