Santa Barbara Men End Regular Season With 153-109 Win Over Pacific

SANTA BARBARA, California, February 3. UCSB left fans cheering as they beat University of the Pacific Tigers for the last time this season at Campus Pool. Senior captain Pat Cary and freshman Scott Vogelgesang each won two events for the Gauchos.

Senior Pat Cary blew the competition out of the water in the 100 and 200 fly events. Cary won the 100 fly with a time of 1:47.73, and the next closest swimmer was teammate Chris Wiggin with a time of 1:51.69. Gaucho Brent Nolan finished up the one, two, three sweep with a time of 1:54.61. The Gauchos were able to sweep the 200 fly as well, Cary leading the way with a time of 48.92, Daniel McClary was next with a time of 50.91 and Chris Wiggin closed out the sweep, 51.19.

Freshman Scott Vogelgesang started the meet with a win in the 200 free 1:40.09 and continued on to win the 100 free 46.29. Vogelgesang also contributed to the sweep in the 50 free for the Gauchos, he took second with a time of 21.42. Bradley Matsumoto took first in the 50 free, 21.13 and Mason Edwards placed third, 22.13.

The Gauchos started the meet in the right direction by winning the 200 Medley relay, 1:34.09 with Bradley Matsumoto, Daniel McClary, Daniel Nyaradi and Pat Cary making the A team. The Gauchos also finished the meet on the same note taking first and second in the 400 free relay. The B team took first, Bradley Matsumoto, Daniel McClary, Scott Vogelgesang, and Mason Edwards finishing with a time of 3:05.54 and the A team was a special senior team taking second, Pat Cary, Myles Peck, Doug Formby, and Scott Lindberg with a time of 3:08.09.

The Gauchos will face the Tigers again later this month at the Big West Championship meet February 21-24, 2007 at the Belmont Center in Long Beach, California.
