Utah Sweeps Wyoming to Continue Women’s Dominance

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, January 26. THE University of Utah men's and women's swimming and diving team beat Wyoming on Friday night. The Ute men earned their first conference win of the season with a 137-103 win, while the women's team knocked off Wyoming 134-100.

For the men, Utah moves to 4-5 overall and 1-2 in conference competition. The Utes dominated throughout the meet winning all but one swimming event. Leading the way for Utah were Michel DeCarolis and David Maasberg each winning two events for the Utes. Both DeCarolis and Maasberg were on the winning 400 medley relay team (3:27.19). DeCarolis also added a victory in the 200 IM with a time of 1:55.89. Maasberg won the 100 free in 47.36. Andrew Jones won the one-meter diving with a score of 297.60 as well. "This is a great win for the guys," comments Head Coach Michael Litzinger. "We needed to show well tonight and did. All of our hard training is starting to pay off."

The women continued their dominance in the conference and improve to 8-0 overall and 6-0 in the conference. Adrienne Coburn won three events; winning the 400 medley relay (3:53.42), 200 IM (2:06.92) and 200 breast (2:19.80). Amber Walter and Alison McInturff each won three events as well. Walter was on the winning 400 medley relay team, won the 50 free (23.22) and the 400 free relay (3:31.30). McIntuff, who was on the winning 400 free relay team, also added victories in the 100 free (51.82) and 200 free (1:51.91). On the diving end, Kelsey Patterson won both the one-meter and three-meter diving.

Both the men and women will be in action again on Saturday at 1:00 p.m., against Air Force. The meet will be held at the Ute Natatorium.
