STEVEN BROWN QUALIFIES FIRST IN 200 FLY -- March 25, 2000 200 Fly start

Stanford junior Steven Brown qualified first in the 200m fly with a 1:55.93, ahead of Virginia senior Doak Finch at 1:56.37 and Stanford junior Adam Messner at 1:56.44. Auburn junior Jeffrey Somensatto was fourth in 1:56.65, Arizona freshman Jeff Dash was fifth in 1:56.89, South Carolina sophomore Zsolt Gaspar was sixth in 1:56.90, and Florida sophomore Duncan Sherrard was seventh in 1:57.10. Central Connecticut State senior Marcin Kaczmarek was eighth in 1:57.37. Gaspar was fourth in the 100 fly last night, and Somensatto was eighth.
Minnesota freshman Yoav Meiri qualified ninth for the consolation final with a time of 1:57.49. Hungarian Arizona State freshman Atilla Czene, the 200 I.M. champion, qualified tenth in 1:57.55, followed by Texas junior Nate Dusing, who was second in the 100 fly, in 1:57.70. Other consolation finalists are Ales Abersek, Iowa; Daniel Kleber, Purdue; Zane deWitz, Tennessee; Phil Demers, Southern Cal; and Ben Anderson, Arizona.
