A Day in the Life: Jill Snyder, Day 5

SHIPPENSBURG, Pennsylvania, January 20. IN her last "A Day in the Life" series entry on SwimmingWorldMagazine.com, Shippensburg University senior Jill Snyder writes about her excitement generated from a Shippensburg sweep of Bloomsburg on Friday. The Ship men downed Bloomsburg, 157-94, while the women picked up a 161-101 victory.

Snyder also explains the importance of team chemistry and pride during meets, as many times your teammates might be your only fans at the pool.

We'd like to thank Jill for taking the time out to let our readers know what swimming at the Division II level is all about. We appreciate her great effort this past week.

Next week, we will offer another interesting insight into a segment of the swimming population many people might not know much about. Navy sophomore Kelly Zahalka will check in with the life of a swimming cadet, where everyone on campus gets up at 0430 just like the swimmers. If there is anything specific you'd like Kelly to address about the Naval life, please e-mail Jason Marsteller and we will forward the requests to Kelly.

Without further ado, here is Jill's final "A Day in the Life" entry:

Friday, January 19, 2007, Day 5
Well, we beat Bloomsburg on both the women and the men's side! It was a very exciting meet and our enthusiasm during the meet was awesome! One thing that our coach, Tim Verge, always stresses is the importance of cheering each other on and showing good support for the people in the water. I know from my standpoint, I always swim better when I know that my teammates are there cheering for me.

The women really stepped up and swam a great meet. We knew going into the meet that it was going to be a tough one and that each of us would have to do our part. We were able to 1-2 a couple events and even 1-2-3 some others. Our women's 200 free relay even broke the pool record. It was such an exciting finish to a great meet. Coach Verge was pleased with how we swam. Even after a couple of good hard weeks of training, we stepped up and really swam awesome.

I was personally happy with how I swam today. I think I could have pushed my 200 breaststroke a little harder, but other than that I am happy with my swims.

Other than the meet, my day was pretty normal. We had a 6:30 a.m. swim this morning to get us ready for the meet. I then had three classes. After the meet, my parents and I went out to eat. It's always nice to see them and visit.

Thanks for reading my blog this week. I hope you all learned a little bit more about Division II swimming and what Shippensburg's program looks like. Good luck to all of you swimmers out there! Have a great season!

Go Ship!

Jill
