Mary Washington Sweeps Seahawks in Dual Meet

ST. MARY'S CITY, Maryland, January 15. THE St. Mary's (Md.) College men's and women's swimming teams returned to the pool Saturday afternoon for the first time since attending the Franklin and Marshall University Invitational on December 1-3. The Seahawks hosted the Eagles of the University of Mary Washington in Capital Athletic Conference action. The Eagle men (4-2, 4-0 CAC) came away with a 104-81 victory, while on the women's side, the Eagles (5-1, 4-0 CAC) posted a 122-75 win as both squads remain undefeated in the conference.

The Eagle women claimed seven events en route to their victory. Senior Maureen Greenlee (Springfield, VA/West Springfield) took two events as Greenlee won the 50 free in 24.87 and the 100 free in 54.54.

For St. Mary's, sophomore Brie McDowell (Hatboro, PA/Hatboro-Horsham) shattered two school records to pace the Seahawk women. McDowell broke her own record in the 200 IM with her time of 2:12.81. She had set the previous record of 2:14.10 in 2006. McDowell followed that up with a win in the 200 back in 2:12.70 before breaking the eight-year record for the 200 breast with her time of 2:34.28. Julie Nealon had set the previous record of 2:38.58 in 1999.

On the men's side, Mary Washington won seven of the 11 events with senior Dale Parker (Fredericksburg, VA/Massaponax) leading the way as Parker claimed first-place finishes in 50 free (22.31) and the 100 free (50.01).

Freshman Justin Anderson (Oak Hill, VA/Oakton) and senior Luke Moss (Fredericksburg, VA/Fredericksburg Academy) also had multiple wins. Anderson claimed the 200 free (1:52.86) and the 500 free (5:08.66), while Moss captured the 200 IM (2:05.49) and the 200 back (2:02.45).

Sophomore Joey Quase (Montgomery Village, MD/Good Counsel) won the 1000 free for the Seahawks as Quase swam 10:53.17, while the 400 medley relay team of freshman Brandon Eads (Stafford, VA/Colonial Forge), sophomore Samuel Fleming (Charlotte Hall, MD/LaPlata), junior co-captain Michael Kerr (Montclair, NJ/Montclair) and sophomore Robert Wiley (Silver Spring, MD/Springbrook) captured the race in 1:42.37.

The Seahawks return to league action on January 20 when St. Mary's travels to Salisbury University for a meet at 1:00. Mary Washington will host Gettysburg College in a non-conference dual meet on Saturday as well at 2:00.
