Ohio Teams Take Buffalo

ATHENS, Ohio, January 14. THE Ohio swimming and diving teams ended its weekend road trip with a win over Buffalo on Saturday. The men's squad won by a 124-117 margin to advance 3-1 on the season and 1-1 in the MAC. The women's squad edged Buffalo 140-91 to advance 7-2 overall and 4-1 in the MAC.

Both teams grabbed wins in the 400 medley relay. Emily Wylam (Yorktown, Va.), Karen Liddy (Piqua, Ohio), Leah Giancarli (Akron, Ohio) and Ashley Marion (London, Ontario) teamed up for the women and finished with a time of 3:56.72. For the men, Stephen D'Arrigo (Tucson, Ariz.), Brandon Stakleff (Akron, Ohio), Bobby Pampush (Rocky River, Ohio) and Jim Bayne (San Antonio, Texas) finished with a time of 3:32.00.

The Ohio women won the first nine events of the meet to finish 10-of-13. Courtney Gallo (Lake Worth, Fla.) finished first in the 1000 free in a season-best time of 10:24.92. Ilse Petersen (Johannesburg, South Africa) followed in second place with a time of 10:29.36. Petersen later on won the 100 free in a time of 53.57.

Caitlin Drozin (Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio) won the 200 free with a time of 1:56.11. Teammates Giancarli and Racheal Kloosterman followed in second (1:57.74) and third (1:57.98) place, respectively. Giancarli won the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:06.26.

Mallory Rico (Mentor, Ohio) took the top spot in the 50 free with a season-high 24.40. Marion also won the 200 IM in 2:08.21.

Lindsay Hamilton (White City, Saskatchewan) continued her success on the boards with first place finishes in the one-meter diving event (237.30) and the three-meter diving event (270.76), which is a new career-high for the freshman in the three-meter.

Wylam won the 200 back in 2:05.92

The Ohio men won five events on the night, including the 400 freestyle relay with a season-best time of 3:10.46. Andrew Belton (San Antonio, Texas), Cy Moser (Parkersburg, W. Va.), Bayne and Luke Herlehy (Batavia, Ill.) teamed up for the victory.

Herlehy set a new career-best in the 1000 free for the second time this season by winning the event in a time of 9:33.63. Herlehy also won the 500 free in 4:43.88.

Jason Reutter (Crown Point, Ind.) took first place in the 200 breast with a time of 2:11.40 and Brandon Stakleff (Akron, Ohio) followed in second place at 2:12.04.

The Bobcats next meet will be on Jan. 19 when both teams host Xavier at The Aquatic Center at 5 p.m.
