Ohio University Wins On Road

ATHENS, Ohio, January 12. THE Ohio women's swim team opened its two-meet road trip with a win over Youngstown State, 135-100, on Friday.

The Bobcats won 9-of-13 events, including a career-best performance from freshman Lindsay Hamilton (White City, Saskatchewan, Canada).

Hamilton scored 264.67 in the one-meter diving event which was .67 better than her previous career-high she set on Nov. 11. It is Hamilton's fourth time taking first place in the event this season. She also won the three-meter diving event with a score of 276.61, topping her previous score of 269.40 on Nov. 4.

Other top finishers for the Bobcats included Sigal Simsolo (Kibbutz Yakum, Israel), Allison Schafer (Medina, Ohio), Caitlin Drozin (Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio) and Heather McKenzie (Burke, Va.) teaming up to win the 200 medley relay in a time of 1:53.74.

Racheal Kloosterman (Whitby, Ontario) took first place in her first try at the 1000 freestyle event. Kloosterman finished in 10:49.35, marking the fifth-best time of any Bobcat this season.

Courtney Gallo (Lake Worth, Fla.) won the 200 freestyle event in a time of 1:58.38. Joellen Kralik (Hudson, Ohio) followed in second place with a time of 1:59.62.

Karen Liddy (Piqua, Ohio), Ilse Petersen (Johannesburg, South Africa) and Simsolo took top three spots of the 50 freestyle event. Liddy finished in first place in a time of 25.27, Petersen took second in 25.30 and Simsolo followed in third at 25.32.

Leah Giancarli (Akron, Ohio) won the 200 IM in 2:13.72 and Ashley Wulf finished in second place in 2:17.57.

Gabrielle Buckner (Wyoming, Ohio) won the 100 backstroke in 1:06.78 and Ashley Marion wrapped up the evening for the Bobcats with a first place finish in the 500 freestyle event in a time of 5:15.48.

The Bobcats will be back in action on tomorrow when they join the men's squad against Buffalo at 1 p.m.
