UIndy Women, Missouri-Rolla Men Lead Indianapolis Invite After Day 1

INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana, January 5. THE University of Indianapolis women lead the way after day one of the two-day UIndy Invite. The Indianapolis men sit in second behind leader Missouri-Rolla. Action resumes tomorrow at the Ruth Lilly Center Pool.

The women's 400 medley relay got the action underway with a win, sparking the early lead. Alison Smith and Valerie Crosby followed with wins in the 200 freestyle and 100 butterfly, respectively, to give the Hounds a sizable cushion. Smith later won the 100 backstroke and Isabela Tafur easily won the 50 yard freestyle to give the UIndy women four individual champions of the seven contested on Friday.

Jeremy Lindauer paced the men's team with his 59.24 finish in the 100 breaststroke to win the event. He also finished in third in the 200 yard individual medley. Yaman Oguz took second in the 200 freestyle while Eric Mundt was third in the 100 breaststroke to round out UIndy's top finishes. The men's relay teams (2nd- 200 medley & 3rd- 200 freestyle) also had strong showings on the opening day of competition.
