Saint Louis Fares Well Against Centenary, IUPUI, Valparaiso

ST. LOUIS, Missouri, December 19. THE No. 7 Saint Louis women's swimming and diving team dominated Centenary, IUPUI and Valparaiso as the Billikens posted three dual meet wins on Tuesday evening. However, the men's squad (9-2) was unable to make it a clean sweep as they failed to hang on to a slim lead over No. 22 Centenary entering the final event, ultimately falling to the Gents by seven points, their only dual loss of the day.

The Billikens started things off right with a victory by the women's team (11-0) in the opening event of the day – the 400 medley relay with a time of 4:06.85. Emily Oberjohn then posted the best time in the 200 free (1:57.18) and Emily Triggs followed with a 1:59.85.

Elena Ramirez continued to come up big for SLU as she posted the best time in the 200 IM (2:10.13), the 200 fly (2:08.05) and the 200 breaststroke (2:25.13). Her time in the 200 fly was good enough for fourth place in the SLU annals, while her 200 IM time ranks fifth all-time.

Meanwhile, Anna Larson won the one-meter diving event with 235.80 points and fellow freshman Lindsey Tamkun led the pack in the 200 backstroke (2:10.90). The Billiken women have now won 46 straight dual meets dating back to the 2004-05 season when they posted an 18-0 record.

Brad Byars led the men's team with a pair of top times in the 50 (21.62) and 100 free (46.99), while Kevin Parker recorded the top time of the day in the 200 back (1:56.97). In the final individual event of the evening, the 200 breast, Sal Cruz sailed to victory with the third fastest time in SLU history (2:10.84). Additionally, the men's 400 medley relay team finished with the second best time of the day, logging the sixth fastest time in school history.

Centenary swept all three of its opponents on the men's side, while its women's squad earned a pair of victories. The IUPUI men defeated Valparaiso, while the Valpo women handed the IUPUI women a loss.
