Villanova Men Pick Up Win Against Widener

VILLANOVA, Pennsylvania, December 9. ON Friday afternoon, the Villanova men's swimming team played host to Widener University at the Villanova Swim Center. The Wildcats came out on top to pick up their second straight win, 132-70, winning 10 of the 11 events swum.

In the six previous seasons under head coach Rick Simpson, this marks the first time that Villanova has hosted a single sex dual meet.

Villanova got out of the gates quickly, winning the 400 medley relay (3:38.74) and would cruise from there to the victory. The Wildcats would go on to win the next nine events, and ten of eleven on the day.

Three Wildcats were able to capture two individual victories, as AJ Mak won the 1000 free (9:55.11) and the 500 free (4:49.92), Sean Whipkey took first in the 50 free (22.16) and the 100 free (48.44) and David Drysdale finshed first in the 200 IM (2:03.86) and the 200 breststroke (2:10.27).

Also posting top finishes for Villanova include Brett Karbach in the 200 free (1:45.56), Jonathan Spindler in the 200 fly (1:57.50) and Ryan McKenna in the 200 back (2:01.65).

The only event that Villanova did not win was the final event of the day, the 400 free relay. Also, the diving events were not contested at the meet.

The Wildcats are now off until January 12 and 13, when both the men's and women's teams will travel to College Park, Maryland to compete alongside Pittsburgh, Richmond and Maryland.
