A Day in the Life: Jay Ashenfelter, Day 4

DURHAM, North Carolina, December 8. IN his fourth "A Day in the Life" series entry, Duke senior Jay Ashenfelter writes about the enjoyment of another semester coming to a close as he completes a pair of classes. He also relates a breaststroke set for IMers.

Thursday, December 7, Day 4
Closing in on the end of the week and things are getting rough in and out of the water.

This morning, I was back in the weight room throwing around plates again. Luckily, the mix we played had a good blend of new stuff and 90s pop-dance music, which always gets the juices flowing.

After that, we donned the suits and goggles for another morning kick.

Today's set was 20x75s kick of your choice every fourth one fast.

After that, I headed to a quick breakfast with the team and than skedaddled back to our duplex to change into a suit in time for my final presentation for "Business, Communication, and Improv." Our group (which included Jake McCafferty again) did the best job of smiling throughout our presentation, because we are awesome.

After that, I changed out of my monkey suit and headed for the second class of the day, "Contemporary Issues in Education." Since today was our last meeting, all I had to do was hand my journal entries for the second half of the semester's school visits. We then had a quick chat and wrapped things up. Just like that, I was finished with two of my four classes.

Tonight, Dan [Colella] had the IMers doing a breaststroke set. After getting our heart rates up with some 12x100s freestyle. we got into the main set:

1×300 free (heart rate-150-160)
2x100s breast (heart rate 160-170)
2x50s breast (200 IM split time)

We did that four times through. After that, we did some free and breaststroke pulling with paddles to make sure our upper backs were really tired.

Now all I have to worry about is finishing a 20-page paper.

Peace

Jay
