Slippery Rock Hires Johnston as Assistant Water Polo Coach

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pennsylvania, December 5. ROCK athletic director Paul Lueken announced Monday that Cynthia Johnston has joined the SRU coaching staff as a part-time assistant coach for the women's water polo team.

Johnston is extremely familiar with The Rock program as a volunteer assistant under Rock swimming and water polo coach Jim Yeamans in either his role as coach or coordinator of aquatic programs at the Aebersold Recreation Center (ARC) on the SRU campus.

Johnston has been a swimming and water polo volunteer at the ARC since 2004 in addition to being a substitute teacher in the Slippery Rock, Butler, Seneca Valley and Grove City school public school districts.

She also served as coach of the Seneca Valley Swim Club from 2002-04 and as a water safety instructor for the Slippery Rock Park and Recreation Department from 1999-2005.

Johnston received her BS in physical education from LeTourneau College in Longview, Texas, in 1984 and her teaching certificate from Ball State University in 1988.
