400m FREE RELAY WILL BE A BATTLE -- March 18, 2000 400m Free relay battle

The top six teams all qualified within seven-tenths of a second of each other in prelims of the 4 x 100m freestyle relay, setting up the prospect for a battle royale in tonight's final.
Georgia qualified first in 3:41.99, with anchorwoman Courtney Shealy shutting it down in the last ten meters. Stanford was half a second back at 3:42.66, followed by Texas (3:42.52), Auburn (3:42.59), Cal (3:42.68) and Arizona (3:42.71).
Qualifying in seventh was SMU (3:43.99); Northwestern was eighth in 3:44.42.
Expect a much faster race this evening.
