UC Davis Picks Up Two Recruits

DAVIS, California, November 29. UC Davis men's swimming coach Pete Motekaitis announced that Brandt Robinson of Lynbrook High in San Jose and Davis native Adam Borchard, who currently attends Jesuit High in Carmichael, have signed National Letters of Intent during the early November signing period to compete at UC Davis. Both student-athletes will compete for the Aggies next fall.

Borchard has been a consistent force in the 100-yard butterfly, and 500 and 200 freestyle in the CIF over the past three years. A Delta League champion in all three events, Borchard has also garnered All-America status as a member of the 400 free relay team while also earning All-America consideration in the 500 free. As a member of the Arden Hills Swimming Club, he earned Scholastic All-America honors twice and was a U.S. Junior National Qualifier. Outside of the pool Borchard is an Eagle Scout and excels academically as a member of the National Honor Society and California Scholastic Federation while earning the Rensselaer Math-Science Award in 2005.

"Adam is a brilliant and outstanding student-athlete who is second in his class at Jesuit academically," said Motekaitis. " He has a great work ethic in and out of the pool and he is going to really help us out in the middle distance freestyle. I'm sure he will have an excellent career as a student-athlete here at UC Davis."

Robinson claimed first place in the 50 free at the Central Coast Section (CCS) Championships last year as a junior. He earned second in the event the previous year as a sophomore. A three-year member of the Santa Clara Swim Club, Robinson is also a utility player for the Santa Clara Valley Athletic League champion water polo team at Lynbrook High.

"Brant won the 50 free as a junior at CCS and it's always great to have someone who can win in big-time situations," said Motekaitis. "I'm really excited to have someone with his kind of speed and ability to race well in clutch situations. He might also really develop well into a very good 100 swimmer in the freestyle, fly and backstroke. He's going to really help add to our cast of young talented swimmers."
