Cal Bears Pick Off UC Santa Barbara

SANTA BARBARA, Calif., November 19. THE Bears overtook in-state rival, UC Santa Barbara, 142-95, Friday at the Gauchos' Campus Pool when they won all but one event at the meet.

Three Cal swimmers won two events. Sherry Tsai claimed the 100-yard backstroke (56.0) and the 100-yard freestyle (52.17). Jessica Hardy took top honors in the 200-yard IM in a time of 2:02.01 and in the 200-yard breaststroke, clocking in at 2:16.59. Lauren Andrews was a double winner in the 1000-yard freestyle (10:15.16) and the 200-yard backstroke (2:01.91).

Other winners for the Bears included Annie Babicz in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:04.56), Erin Reilly in the 100-yard butterfly (56.12), Rachel Ridgeway in the 200-yard freestyle (1:52.11), Dana Vollmer in the 200-yard butterfly (2:01.84) and Emily Silver in the 500-yard freestyle (4:59.21).

The Bears also won the 200-yard freestyle relay, recording a time of 1:37.03.

UC Santa Barbara's Jamie Lathers posted her team's only victory in the 50-yard freestyle (24.45).

Cal next competes at the Georgia Invitational Dec. 1-3 in Athens, Ga.
