Stony Brook Teams Sweep Iona, St. Francis

BROOKLYN, N.Y., November 17. THE Stony Brook men's and women's swimming and diving team both topped the Iona and St. Francis (NY) in a coed tri-meet. The Stony Brook men defeated Iona 57-47 and St. Francis 85-18. The women topped Iona and St. Francis 63-41 and 85-18, respectively. The women's team is now 2-3 on the season, while the men are 3-2.

The female Stony Brook "A" relay team of Maeve Leong, Brittany Whipple, Anjelica D'Esposito and Courtney Teague got the women off to a fast start when they placed first in the 200-yard medley in 1:53.63.

Sayles bested Shea Dix of Iona with a time 1:58.16 and Whipple beat Amanda Cody of Iona in the 50-yard freestyle in 25.23, winning by just two seconds. D'Esposito emulated Whipple when she won the 100-yard butterfly over Eryn Crane. Crane finished in 1:00.98.

On the men's side, the male Seawolves, coming off their first victory over Maine, came out of the gate early when the "A" relay won the 200-yard medley. The team of Raphy Labour, Jon Sigurosson, Chris Pai and Omer Ozcan finished more than five seconds ahead of St. Francis.

Bryce Cullinane continued his strong season winning the 1000-yard freestyle in 10:34.33. Omer Ozcan followed a few events later when he touched first in the 50-yard freestyle, just 12 seconds ahead of Gabor Szabo of Iona.

Ruslan Safarov and Jon Sigurosson placed first and second in the 100-yard butterfly followed by Raphy Labour and Omer Ozcan placing one and two in the 100-yard backstroke.

Vladimir Sreckovic won the last individual event of the night when he touched first in the 100-yard breaststroke.
