UC Irvine Hosts Day One of Speedo Cup

LONG BEACH, California, November 16. THE UC Irvine/Speedo Cup has concluded day one with the Stanford men and the Brigham Young women leading heading into day two at Belmont Plaza Olympic Pool.

Brigham Young has 378 points ahead of second place UC San Diego with 257 points. The host Anteaters are in third place with 182.5 points. Freshman Lyndsay DePaul broke the UCI record in the 200 IM with her winning time of 2:02.32. Her time is an NCAA "B" cut time and is the seventh fastest time in the country this season.

Stanford leads the men's field with 575.5 points after day one. Air Force is in second with 289 points ahead of Brigham Young in third with 285 points. The host Anteaters are in fourth with 205 points. The Cardinal posted the fastest 200 free relay time of the season with a time of 1:20.62. Shaun Phillips of Stanford won the 500 free with a time of 4:18.81, the second fastest time in the country this season to qualify for the NCAA Championship. Hongzhe Sun of Stanford won the 200 IM in a NCAA qualifying time of 1:46.55. The Stanford 400 medley relay broke a 14 year-old meet record with a time of 3:14.54 in the final race of the night.
