Missouri Closes Out Mizzou Challenge With Wins

COLUMBIA, Missouri, November 5. THE Missouri swimming and diving teams won both meets contested on Sunday and completed the three-day Mizzou Dual Challenge with four dual meet victories and a 5-team invitational crown.

The men (4-1) defeated Louisville, 165-59, and won Sunday's invitational with 497 points. Southern Illinois was second with 418 points, followed by Iowa with 357, Louisville with 332 and Drury with 246.

The 25th-ranked Missouri women (5-1) outscored Louisville, 125-99, and took the women's side of the invitational with 494 points. Following the Tiger women were Louisville with 451 points, Iowa with 352, SIU with 332 and Drury with 227.

"We were exerting a lot of energy over three days and our depth came though and that's why we won some of the meets," Missouri head coach Brian Hoffer said. "I was very pleased with our staff and the research they did in formulating the right mix – and the team for rising to the challenge."

In the women's dual, Missouri held a slim lead through five events at 49-44. Then the Tigers scored 15 points with three of the first four places in the 200 butterfly, highlighted by sophomore Coralie Baumann's season-best time of 2:05.42.Junior Arica Jacinto also went the fastest she has all year – 2:06.07 – to earn second-place honors.

The Cardinals gained five points back in the 100 free before the Tigers stretched their lead to 31 points following high scoring totals in the 200 back and 500 free. Freshman Colleen Gordon secured wins in the 200 and 500 free on the day – both in the dual with UL and the overall invitational meet.

The men's race with UL was not as tight as the women's with Mizzou securing at least 12 points in the each of the first five events for a 68-25 lead. The Tigers went on to total double-figures in 11 of the 12 events for their fourth-consecutive dual victory.

Junior Bennett Clark remained perfect on the year in the 50 and 100 free, while swimming his three fastest times in succession over his last three 100s.

In addition to Gordon and Clark's two invitational victories each, freshman Martin Cernansky collected first in the 200 breaststroke as he went head-to-head with Iowa's Dragos Agache. And for the second
