UCSB Sweeps UCSD

SANTA BARBARA, California, November 4. UC Santa Barbara swept UC San Diego on Saturday with the men winning 172-84 and the women taking a 147-112 victory.

For the women, Jessica Cruzat won the 200 fly with a time of 2:09.34, normally an event swam by Gaucho Jen Schwalb. Today Schwalb swam, and won, the 1000 free with a time of 10:35.13. Cruzat completing her double win swam the 500 free with a time of 5:06.52. Schwalb also swam the 200 back and took second with a time of 2:11.89. Cruzat and Schwalb swam on the 200 free relay that took first place as well. Both Cruzat and Schwalb proved today how versatile of swimmers they are by swimming well in events that are not as common for them.

On the men's side, senior Pat Cary won three individual events and helped his 200 medley team take first place as well. Cary started off the meet with his relay team, Formby, Malcolm and Bauer, finishing almost a full second ahead of UCSD with a time of 1:36.87. Cary continued on to win the 200 fly with a time of 1:48.88, a very good early season swim with only a few seconds off last seasons Big West Conference time. Cary blew away the field in the 100 fly and won it by three seconds with a time of 49.35. With just one event to catch his breath he was back in the water to win the 200 IM with a tie of 1:57.77 just touching out Kelvin Le of UCSD.

Other notable swims of the day were double event winner Myles Peck who won the 200 free, 1:41.67 and the 200 back, 1:53.34.
