Looking forward with California head coach Nort Thornton:
This is our first meet against national contenders; we are looking forward to the challenge that lies ahead of us this weekend. Both Texas and Indiana have produced stellar teams year-in and year-out. Our schedule this season allows us to see all of the top contenders, except Auburn. We are ready for the challenge starting this weekend.

Indiana's Last Time Out:
Indiana knocked off its second ranked opponent of the season on Oct. 28, topping No. 19 Arizona State at the Counsilman-Billingsley Aquatic Center, 156-132. Ben Hesen, Pat Penoyar, Nick Walkotten and Todd Patrick did most of the heavy lifting, combining for 10 of the Hoosiers' 11 wins on the day. Diver Taylor Roberts picked up Indiana's other victory. Hesen, Penoyar, Walkotten and Patrick started the meet on the right foot for the Hoosiers, turning in a time of 1:31.07 to easily win the 200-yard medley relay. Hesen and Patrick continued their early dominance, winning three individual events each. Hesen took the 100-yard backstroke for the third straight meet, winning in 50.00, then completed the sweep in the back events by cruising to a win in the 200-yard backstroke in 1:51.40. Hesen capped his big day with a win in the 100-yard butterfly, posting a time of 49.76. Patrick took the 50, 100 and 200-yard freestyles for the second time this season, as he also turned the triple against Kentucky on Oct. 21. Patrick touched in 1:39.69 to claim the 200 free, then snagged the 50 free in 20.70. The junior from Chesterfield, Mo., completed the sweep with a time of 45.48 in the 100 free. Penoyar claimed both breaststroke events, winning the 100-yard breaststroke in 56.95 and the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:03.53. Walkotten picked up a victory in the 200-yard butterfly, taking the event in 1:51.92. Roberts earned the win in the one-meter, posting a score of 361.50.

Looking forward with Indiana head coach Ray Looze:
We are excited to race against two of the finer swim teams in the country. This will give our team invaluable experience which we can put toward the Big Ten's and NCAA's later this year.

Texas' Last Time Out:
Texas collected victories in 13 events en route to a convincing win in the Big 12 Relay Meet. The Longhorns captured the meet with 119 points, while Texas A&M took second with 91 and Missouri placed third with 74. Texas' versatility was on display Friday, as 12 Longhorns had a hand in the 13 victories. Leading the way were senior Thomas Sacco and junior Daniel Rohleder, who each were a part of six winning relay teams. Junior Matthew McGinnis, sophomore Michael Klueh and freshman Ricky Berens tallied five victories, while junior Caleb McDermott added four wins for Texas. Texas also was victorious in the competition's diving element, as the Longhorns swept the one- and three-meter diving relays. Sophomore David Rosen, freshman Michael Wong and senior Bailey Gao claimed the one-meter relay with a total of 288.70 and the three-meter event with a score of 311.85.

Looking forward with Texas head coach Eddie Reese:
This meet is really going to answer some questions for us. I know we have been working hard, but we just need to find out how hard now. We have some guys that have made giant leaps in their technique and have redone their strokes. I think we may even get some lifetime bests out of this meet. As far as Cal and Indiana go, I don't know where they are going to be coming in. I do know that it should be a good meet and there will be some fast swimming.
