UWGB Splits With Cleveland State

GREEN BAY, Wisconsin, October 28. THE University of Wisconsin-Green Bay women's swimming and diving team won 13 of 16 events in posting a 179-97 victory over Cleveland State Saturday afternoon at Dorschel Natatorium. The Phoenix men, meanwhile, fell to the Vikings by a score of 206-94.

The UW-Green Bay women improve to 2-1 overall in duel meets this season including 2-0 against Horizon League foes, while the men's team falls to 0-3 and 0-2.

The Phoenix women got a balanced effort on the afternoon as defending Horizon League Swimmer of the Week Danielle DeGrand was the only person to post two individual wins. After being a part of three pool records in a win over Wright State last Saturday, DeGrand added another top time to her resume in winning the 200 backstroke in 2:06.62. The Green Bay native also won the 50 freestyle (24.96) and was a member of the victorious 400 medley relay (4:01.40).

Posting an individual win as well as swimming on a winning relay were Jenna Smith (100 breaststroke, 1:07.82; 400 medley relay), Kelsey Hausken (100 free, 55.79; 400 medley relay) and Laurel Yelton (1000 free, 10:55.51; 400 free relay, 3:44.07). Ashley Warzon was also a member of both first-place relay squads.

On the men's side, Joey Weber notched all three of his team's wins in the meet. The senior took home titles in the 100 back (51.74), 50 free (21.48) and the 200 back (1:54.10).
