No. 14 Tennessee Remains Undefeated, 140-103, Over N.C. State

RALEIGH, North Carolina, October 28. THE 14th ranked Tennessee men's swimming and diving team moved to 4-0 on the season after a 140-103 win over the North Carolina State Wolfpack Saturday at the Casey Aquatic Center in Raleigh, N.C.

"This was another nice day of competition for us," UT head coach John Trembley said. "The guys came back from a fun meet (Friday) with a good competition (Saturday) also."

The Vols went 1-2-3 in the 50 free with junior Octavio Alesi finishing first in 20.68 and continuing an impressive junior campaign. Sophomore Barry Murphy finished second in 20.88 followed by Andrew Van Meter in 21.53.

Alesi built on his strong 50 free and won the 100 free in 46.02. Senior Chris Wary finished third in 48.17.

Junior Michael Wolfe matched Alesi in individual wins on the day, winning the 200 I.M. in 1:52.23 and the 200 backstroke in 1:47.92. Andrew Van Meter finished third in the 200 back in 1:53.54.

Wolfe also led the first-place 200 medley relay that won in 1:32.10. Following Wolfe were Peter McVey, Stan Czarnecki and Murphy. Tennessee also took second in the relay in 1:33.05 led by Brad Boswell with Michael Russo, Travis Wright and Andrew Engle.

Sophomore Nolan Morrell won the 200 freestyle in 1:41.08. Jimmy Dabney finished fifth in 1:45.31.

Morrell also finished second in the 500 free in 4:46.76.

Russo won the 200 breaststroke in 2:06.06. McVey finished fourth in 2:13.79.

Tennessee ended the meet winning the 200 freestyle relay in 1:24.00 with Murphy leading followed by Boswell, Czarnecki and Engle.

"We had some nice swims including Michael Wolfe in the 100 back and Octavio Alesi and Barry Murphy in the 50 free," Trembley added. "We won nine of 13 events and are pretty pleased with the road trip as a whole. We are looking forward to getting home and continuing preparations for the rest of the season."

In diving, Michael Muscari finished second on the 3-meter board with 343.68 and second on the 1-meter board with 297.98.
