Fordham Splits with Marist

BRONX, New York, October 26. FORDHAM split its meet with Marist College at the Col. Francis B. Messmore Aquatic Center as the women defeated the Red Foxes, 130-113, while the men lost to Marist by a 125-118 final.

The women's swimming and diving team (1-0) won seven events on the evening, led by freshman Caitlin Napoli who broke her own school record in the 200 butterfly in a time of 2:06.05. Just last Saturday, Napoli swam 2:06.98, which broke the former school record of 2:07.32 set by Gabriel Lorenc in 1992, which was the oldest Fordham women's swimming record on the books. Napoli also won the 200 freestyle event on the night in 1:54.16.

Freshman Tressa Dunn also won two events on the night, winning the 50 and 100 freestyle events in 24.62 seconds and 53.19 seconds, respectively. Other events winners were Ashley Ukleja in the 1000 freestyle (10:29.87), Nicole Marshall in the 200 breaststroke (2:24.80), and the 400 medley relay team, consisting of Napoli, Marshall, Kim Bouton, and Dunn.

On the men's side (0-1), Fordham won eight events on the night, four of which came from the Coombs family. Justin Coombs won the 200 freestyle (1:44.42) and 500 freestyle (4:45.46), while Ryan Coombs won the 1000 freestyle (9:48.47) and the 200 butterfly (1:57.81). Donnie Callara was also a dual winner, taking both diving events with scores of 270.68 (1M) and 293.93 (3M). Niko Felix won the 200 breaststroke in 2:10.39, while the 400 freestyle relay, consisting of Rich Woyma, Rich Butler, Ben Burge, and Ryan Coombs, closed out the with a first place finish in 3:16.81.
